The Introduction of China Sport Science Society

China Sport Science Society (Hereafter referred to as “CSSS”), founded in 1980, is an academic society of sport science with longest history and largest scale in China. As a top sport science society with standard operation and big social influence, it integrates technicality, science popularity and commonweal in its value. CSSS is the government’s important assistant in connecting the sport scientists and technologists and developing China’s sport science enterprise. It is a loyal representative to sport scientists and technologists, an important base for spreading sport science and culture, and a vital force for developing the sport science enterprise.

The purpose of the society is to unite and organize numerous scientists and technologists; to initiate the spirit of science: dedication, innovation, objectivity, cooperation; to promote sport science activities, to accelerate the development of sport science and the growth of sport scientists and technologists, and to serve the buildup of people’s health and the enhancement of sport technical level under the constitution, laws and societal morality.

The highest leading institution of CSSS is the National Member Congress. The Council is the executive body. The Society sets up a Standing Committee, which composes of the Director-General, Deputy Director-General, the Secretary-General and Branch Chairmen. The routine work of CSSS is carried out by the Secretary-General.

CSSS has 18 Branches according to different professional fields and 2 Editorial Committees, namely, The Branch of Sport Social Science, The Branch of Sport Training, The Branch of Sport Medicine, The Branch of Sport Biomechanics, The Branch of Sport Psychology, The Branch of Fitness Study, The Branch of Sport Information, The Branch of Sport Equipment, The Branch of Sport Architecture, The Branch of Sport Statistics, The Branch of Sport Computer Application, The Branch of Physical Education, The Branch of Sport History, The Branch of Wushu, The Branch of Sport Industry, The Branch of Sport Management, The Branch of Sport News and Media, The Branch of Athletic Physiology and Exercise Biochemistry, Editorial Committee of “Sport Science” and Editorial Committee of “ Chinese Sport Medicine Journal”. Chapters of the society are set up in 27 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities included) and 6 line item cities. CSSS now has over 4000 individual members and more than 180 unit members. It has joined International Federation of Sport Medicine (FIMS), Asian Federation Sport Medicine, International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS), International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP), Asian-South Pacific Association of Sport Psychology (ASPASP) and other international academic organizations. It has built up bilateral relations in academic exchanges with Korea Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences, American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Finland Society of Sport Science, Germany Society of Sport Science, etc. The two CSSS Journals, namely, “Sport Science” and “China Sport Medicine Magazine”, rank top in China’s sport core journals. Circulated abroad in more than 40 countries and regions, the two journals have influence home and abroad.

CSSS organizes the activities of domestic and international sport academic exchanges, review and issue of sport science awards, sport science popularization, continual education and relevant consultations. It organizes sport science program research, and promotes the spread, transformation, development and authentication of scientific achievements as well. CSSS holds all kinds of exportations, exhibitions and demonstrations in sport science. It also edits books, journals, popular science readings and informational materials in sport science. CSSS has maintained the contacts with overseas sport science organizations and individuals. CSSS recommends and honors its members as well as full-time or part-time CSSS staff who have made outstanding contributions in CSSS activities. CSSS holds activities for sport scientists and technologists. It also carries out work assigned by the government and other institutions.

Now CSSS is in charge of the following work: to organize, review and award the top comprehensive scientific and technological prize in the sports circle, namely Science and Technology Award of China Sport Science Society. It develops scientific research programs with its 17 chapters, publishes books in sport science and popular science. CSSS holds high level and authoritative academic activities such as National Sport Science Conference, National Youth Academic Conference of Sport Science and China Sport Doctor Forum. CSSS takes care of program bidding work entrusted by State General Administration of Sport, funds the editing and printing of latest sport scientific achievements, and purchases sport nurtures for national teams. CSSS has established bilateral ties and made academic exchanges with foreign academies. The cooperation is carried out in the fields of scientific service, education, training, and consultations. To promote the awareness of sport science, CSSS holds consultations, lectures and training activities and sets up funds to finance the printing of video and audio materials, books and wall maps in sport science.

In the past 30 years, CSSS has played an important role in associating sport scientists and technologists to promote the advancement and development of sport science and technology. It has made significant contributions to the growth and development of the sport scientists and technologists.
